Yawning is a part of everyday life, we do it quite a lot during the day and you don’t even need to be tired to yawn.

I’ve already yawned twice while writing this small piece!

Well here are a few facts you didn’t know about yawning – and why not count how many yawns you do whilst reading this!

The average yawn lasts for six seconds and it is said to be controlled by the hypothalamus of our brain.

There are a few theories on why we yawn but it is not really known which one is true, these theories are: lack of oxygen due to not being very or breathing slower when tired.

It is suggested that yawning is like stretching, it is done to satisfy you.

Researchers proposed that yawning is a way of cooling the brain.

An experiment was carried out with two groups of people; one group pressed a warm/room temperature towel against their head, and the other group done it with a cold towel.

The results showed that those who had warm towels on their head yawned more often than those who had a cold towel.
