It all started in 1963 when a suspect, unaware of his rights, got caught out in a confession that he retracted. Now any potential criminal must be told, “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will, be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you.”\r\n\r\n
