Texas.\nThere are three types of Knabstrupper horses.\n
All three types of Knabstruppers have distinctive traits.\n
A sport horse type knabstruppers are crossbred with the warm-blood sport horses of Europe to produce a well-built horse that can perform strongly in jumping events.\n
The second is the Baroque type. This type is shorter but broader than the sport type. They were mostly used as war or carriage horses.\n
The third one is a pony type. As its name suggests, pony type Knabstruppers are physically short but enjoy a high reputation among children.\n
Knabstruppers are often mistaken for American Appaloosa horses.\n
\n
In fact, there are several debates online in which people post a picture of a spotted horse and try to determine the breed.\n
Surprisingly, half of the audience will say it is an Appaloosa, while another half arguably defines the horse to be Knabstrupper.\n
Such uncertainties indicate strong similarities.\n
However, the primary difference is that Appaloosa horses originated in the United States while Knabstruppers in Denmark.\n
But, if you go even deeper in history, their origins converge during the time of \u201ctiger horses.\u201d\n
The Knabstrupper breed was almost lost.\n
\n
The problem of inbreeding almost led to the near disappearance of this breed.\n
In addition, the fire that devastated the Lynn Family Stables claimed 22 of the top breeding knabstruppers.\n
These situations brought the breed to the verge of disappearance.\n
However, thanks to the breeder, Frede Nielsen, three American Appaloosa horses were brought to Denmark to infuse new blood into the breed.\n
That saved the breed from going extinct.\n
Flaebe Mare gained a reputation when she saved her owner, Major Villars Lunn.\n
One day, Major Villars Lunn was trampled by a carriage and sustained severe injuries, including a broken leg.\n
Of course, the situation required a doctor, but none were nearby.\n
So, Flaebe Mare, along with another horse, rode close to 19 miles (30 km) to collect a doctor which saved her life!\n
Knabstrupper horses are considered one of the healthier horse breeds.\n
\n
Their life expectancy is close to 27.5 years, and they are known for having no breed-specific health issues.\n
Therefore, they are easy to maintain as long as people feed them with grass, grains, vegetables, and hay.\n
