With&nbsp;a total of 113,990 sq mi (295,234 km\u00b2) of land it is the 6<sup>th largest state.\n<p>Enough dry facts for now though, let\u2019s take a closer look at what really makes this desert state tick!\n</p><h2 class='\"list\"'>We\u2019re not exactly sure what Arizona was named after.\n</h2><p><img loading='\"lazy\"' decoding='\"async\"' class='\"alignnone' size-full wp-image-202664 src="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/wp-content%5C/uploads%5C/2020%5C/04%5C/arizona-welcome.jpg%5C%22" alt='\"Nobody' truly knows where arizona got its name from width='\"728\"' height='\"360\"' srcset='\"https:\/\/www.factstoryhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/arizona-welcome.jpg' https: sizes='\"(max-width:'>\n</p><p>We still don\u2019t know the exact origin of the name Arizona, and it\u2019s quite possible we never will.\n</p><p>That being said, there are really only two options.\n</p><p>The first possible origin of the name goes back to the original inhabitants of Arizona \u2013 the indigenous O\u2019odham people.\n</p><p>The legend goes that there is a small spring in northern Sonora, a state of <a href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/mexico-facts%5C/%5C%22">Mexico which shares its border with Arizona.\n<p>When European settlers first arrived they asked the name of the area, and they were told the name of the spring \u2013 al\u012d \u1e63onak.\n</p><p>This name then morphed through the Spanish language into Arizonac, and eventually through English into Arizona.\n</p><p>The other theory has a much simpler origin. So what did he do?\n</p><p>He bought the whole bridge, lamps and all \u2013 and had it shipped all the way to Arizona!\n</p><p>The bridge was taken apart piece by piece and then reconstructed, and to this day it\u2019s the biggest tourist attraction in the surrounding area.\n</p><h2 class='\"list\"'>Only about 15% of land in Arizona is privately owned.\n</h2><p><img loading='\"lazy\"' the Grand Canyon is overwhelmingly deep, and mind shatteringly spectacular, it\u2019s just not deep enough.\n</p><p><a that nobody can really agree on what exactly is the deepest canyon in the world, as everyone has slightly different criteria.\n</p><p>The most likely answer, though, is the Yarlung Zangbo canyon in request for an exemption, and were granted it.
