{"id":204041,"date":"2020-06-12T16:00:13","date_gmt":"2020-06-12T15:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.factstoryhub.com\/?p=204041"},"modified":"2021-03-17T12:58:49","modified_gmt":"2021-03-17T12:58:49","slug":"worlds-smallest-sculptures","status":"publish","type":[],"link":"https:\/\/www.factstoryhub.com\/worlds-smallest-sculptures\/","title":{"rendered":"The World&rsquo;s Teeniest Tiny Sculptures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We all enjoy walking around a museum, having a good look at the sculptures and bits of art on display \u2013 usually from a good distance behind some red ropes.\n</p><p>But there are some sculptures out there where standing behind a barrier just wouldn\u2019t do it because you wouldn\u2019t see them!\n</p><p>English sculptor and artist Willard Wigan specialize in sculptures that are carved out of singular grains of rice!\n</p><p>In fact, most of Willard\u2019s sculptures are that tiny you\u2019d need a magnifying glass to really soak in the exquisite details in each one.\n</p><h2><strong>Tools of the trade.\n<p><img loading='\"lazy\"' decoding='\"async\"' class='\"alignnone' size-full wp-image-204042 src="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/wp-content%5C/uploads%5C/2020%5C/05%5C/worlds-teeniest-frozen.jpg%5C%22" alt='\"Willard' wigan sculptures of characters from the movie frozen width='\"728\"' height='\"360\"' srcset='\"https:\/\/www.factstoryhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/worlds-teeniest-frozen.jpg' https: sizes='\"(max-width:'>\n</p><p>To make these incredible tiny sculptures, Willard uses toothpicks and <a href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/fun-sugar-facts%5C/%5C%22">sugar crystals to carve and paint his pieces \u2013 with the smallest sculptures being measured in thousandths of an inch!\n<p>To give his sculptures some context, Willard displays them in needle eyes, or sitting on an eyelash and even next to a grain of sand.\n</p><p>Now you can really appreciate how fantastically detailed and tiny they really are.\n</p><h2><strong>A self-taught artist.\n<p><img loading='\"lazy\"' decoding='\"async\"' class='\"alignnone' size-full wp-image-204043 src="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/wp-content%5C/uploads%5C/2020%5C/05%5C/worlds-teeniest-alice.jpg%5C%22" alt='\"Willard' wigan sculptures of alice in wonderland width='\"728\"' height='\"360\"' srcset='\"https:\/\/www.factstoryhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/worlds-teeniest-alice.jpg' https: sizes='\"(max-width:'>\n</p><p>At the age of 5, Willard started making tiny houses for ants because he thought they needed somewhere to live.\n</p><p>After that he started making them tiny shoes and hats, because they needed to look dapper in their tiny houses.\n</p><p>Learning how to carve into something as small as a grain of rice is something Willard also had to teach his <em>body to do.\n<p>He studied meditative techniques and states to lower any movement in his body \u2013 holding his breath with each stroke to ensure the exact control needed to create such intimate detail.\n</p><p>It\u2019s a job that comes with some hazards though \u2013 when asked about his work he said how, when working on the <a href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/fun-facts-about-alices-in-wonderland%5C/%5C%22">Alice in Wonderland piece, \u201cThere was a tragedy when I first tried making this piece\u2026 I inhaled Alice!\u201d\n<p>Talk about falling down a black hole to Wonderland eh?\n</p><p>&nbsp;\n</p><p>Check out Willard&rsquo;s incredible work \u2013 you will not be disappointed!\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"</p><p>We all enjoy going to museums and art galleries, but some works of art aren&rsquo;t clearly visible to the naked eye.
