He denied this position to work on his own band.\n</p><p class='\"list\"'>Coldplay originally signed with independent label, Fierce Panda.\n</p><p class='\"list\"'>They signed with Parlophone Records in 1999.\n</p><p class='\"list\"'>They recorded their debut album <em>Parachutes in four different studios.\n<p class='\"list\"'>Their first single &ldquo;Shiver&rdquo; from <em>Parachutes was 35th in the UK Top 40. &ldquo;Yellow&rdquo;, their signature track from <em>Parachutes reached number 4.\n<p class='\"list\"'>Coldplay won Best British Group and Best British Album at the 2001 Brit Awards.\n</p><p class='\"list\"'>The track &lsquo;The Scientist&rsquo; came from the second album, <em>A Rush of Blood to the Head, and was inspired by the George Harrison track, &lsquo;All Things Must Pass&rsquo;.\n<p class='\"list\"'>The band covered The Pretenders track &lsquo;2000 Miles&rsquo; and donated the proceeds to Future Forests and Stop Handgun Violence Campaigns.\n</p><p class='\"list\"'>The album X &amp; Y had six singles; &lsquo;Speed of Sound&rsquo;, &lsquo;Fix You&rsquo;, &lsquo;Talk&rsquo;, &lsquo;The Hardest Part&rsquo;, &lsquo; What If&rsquo;, and &lsquo;White Shadows&rsquo;.\n</p><p class='\"list\"'>&lsquo;Viva la Vida&rsquo;, the self-titled track from the album <em>Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, was number 1 on the Billboard UK Download Chart.\n<p class='\"list\"'><em>Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends had Hispanic influences.\n<p class='\"list\"'><em>Mylo Xyloto was described as being an album about &ldquo;addiction, escape, love, OCD and working for someone you don&rsquo;t like&rdquo;.\n<p class='\"list\"'>&lsquo;Paradise&rsquo; was their best-selling rock single &ndash; it sold over 410,000 copies.\n</p><p class='\"list\"'>The band has sold over 55 million records worldwide.\n</p><p class='\"list\"'>Coldplay performed at the <a href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/steve-jobs-facts%5C/%5C%22">Steve Jobs memorial, as a thank you for all his continued support in his lifetime.\n<p class='\"list\"'>The band has been compared to other rockers such as Travis and U2 (both of whom were big influences on their work).\n</p><p class='\"list\"'>They turned down multi-million dollar contracts with Diet Coke, Gap, and <a href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/gatorade-facts%5C/%5C%22">Gatorade.\n<p class='\"list\"'>The band is a supporter of multiple charities such as Amnesty International, Make Poverty History, and Oxfam.\n</p><p class='\"list\"'>Chris Martin made a cameo in the film <em>Shaun of the Dead.
