{"id":767,"date":"2010-03-21T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-21T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.factstoryhub.com\/2010\/03\/google-street-view-wheres-wally.html"},"modified":"2020-12-06T19:07:17","modified_gmt":"2020-12-06T19:07:17","slug":"google-street-view-wheres-wally","status":"publish","type":[],"link":"https:\/\/www.factstoryhub.com\/google-street-view-wheres-wally\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Street View &ndash; Where&rsquo;s Waldo?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>March 2009, Google first launched its street view and for a bit of <i>Googley-fun-ness, they announced that they have dressed a man as Waldo (or Wally as others may know him as) with a striped <a title='\"8' wild facts about the color red href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/8-wild-facts-about-color-red%5C/%5C%22">red and white jumper and hat.\n<p>And of course like the Where&rsquo;s Waldo series, is hidden somewhere in crowd of Street View.\n</p><p>As soon as this was announced, web users teamed up to find Waldo, looking through millions of images captured by the cameras on Google&rsquo;s cars.\n</p><p>Shortly after, Wally was located by the Google Sightseeing team, who announced their find on <a href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/twitter-facts%5C/%5C%22">Twitter. &ldquo;Here&rsquo;s Wally! Google announced that Wally was somewhere in the </a><a title='\"Most' common street names in the uk href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/most-common-street-names-in-uk%5C/%5C%22">UK Street View, and we found him in London.&rdquo;\n<p>The people from the sightseeing team had as much as an idea to his location as everyone else, they tracked him to Putney High Street in south-west London standing outside an O2 phone shop, where he can clearly be seen waving at the camera, wearing the standard Where&rsquo;s Waldo clothes.\n</p><p>A more recent update to Google Street View has gone live, which means 98% of the UK&rsquo;s road are now mapped.\n</p><p>So basically this means that the road your house is on is most likely covered via Street View, and you will be able to see your curtains of your own house.\n</p><p>Let&rsquo;s just hope you weren&rsquo;t doing a naked pose out of the window at the time!\n</p><p>Some people have found pictures of themselves on the Street View maps, which became an identity issue as they captured photographs of people without their consent.\n</p><p>Google simply blurred the faces of all the people to solve this issue.\n</p><p>Also they blurred the number plates of cars to ensure individuals could not be identified.\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"</p><p>When Google Maps released Street View they announced they had dressed someone up as Waldo and told users to go find him.
