Before this time, people used to send private notes wishing Merry Christmas, this was also done for births and to wish a happy new year.\n</p><p>Sir Henry Cole was a busy man and did not have the time to write personal messages for Christmas in 1843, although he didn&rsquo;t want to just not send any.\n</p><p>So he hired an artist called John Calcott Horsley and got him to design a card which could be sent off straight away.\n</p><h2>The First Christmas Card\n</h2><p><img loading='\"lazy\"' decoding='\"async\"' class='\"alignnone' size-full wp-image-205655 src="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/wp-content%5C/uploads%5C/2009%5C/12%5C/christmas-cards-facts.jpg%5C%22" alt='\"The' first christmas card with adults and children holding up a glass of wine while celebrating festivities width='\"728\"' height='\"420\"' srcset='\"https:\/\/www.factstoryhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/christmas-cards-facts.jpg' https: sizes='\"(max-width:'>\n</p><p>The first <a title='\"History' of tinsel href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/history-of-tinsel%5C/%5C%22">Christmas card created had hand drawn images of adults and children raising their </a><a title='\"How' to make wine href="%5C%22https:%5C/%5C/www.factstoryhub.com%5C/making-wine%5C/%5C%22">wine glasses in a toast.\n<p>It also had some religious symbols on it.
